Conservation Efforts & Strategies
Protecting and sustaining the Conservation Area demands the participation of all stakeholders, including government, institutions, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and the communities that live in the conservation area's vicinity.

Individuals, public, and naturalists are always welcome to support Sabah Foundation's Conservation & Environmental Management Division in spreading awareness to the public about the need of conserving our natural forests and protecting their value. We need to change the mindset of the society to view forests with respect, and see them as ancient, sacred and mysterious. We need to recognize forests as incredibly biodiverse hotspots and the best "technology" we have, to fight climate change (youmatter.world).

There is an ongoing effort to nominate the Danum Valley together with Maliau Basin and Imbak Canyon (DaMaI) as a World Heritage Site.

In October 2017, Sabah Environmental Trust (SET) has signed an MoU with the state government of Sabah and Sabah Foundation to support DaMaI Initiative: Patrolling (Enforcement and Monitoring). This initiative is to help fight illegal harvesting of forest and wildlife resources which are the main issues within the DaMaI Rainforest Complex. It is hoped that Sabah's pristine rainforests will be protected, preserved, conserved and nurtured for the future of our children.
