Danum Valley, is flora rich with 511 species of trees were identified so far.  Walking in the trails dominated with dipterocarp trees with closely spaced tree canopies and little undergrowth is surely an experience to be treasured.

World Eminent of Wildlife Diversity

Prominent for its rich diversity of animals, Danun Valley is recognized for its large terrestrial mammals. Inhabited by more than 121 species of mammals with extremely rare animals including the 10 species of primates.

Paradise for Birder Twitches

It is also a haven for birders as it resides more than 317 species of birds, representing nearly three-quarters of the resident birds of the entire island of Borneo. This gives Danum the privilege of being one of the best destinations for bird watching.

Situated about 27km from the SHELL Maliau Gate, at the southeast edge of the Basin, Maliau Basin Studies Centre functioned as the center for research, conservation, education and ecotourism purposes. It was build in 1999 where it is a 4 years project initiated between Yayasan Sabah and DANIDA (Danida International Development Assistance).
